‘E PLURIBUS VENOM’ – New Works by SHEPARD FAIREY

June 29, 2007

levine-poster.jpg

‘E Pluribus Venom’ is the title of Shepard’s most ambitious art exhibition to date and it debuted this month to the masses in NYC over not one, but TWO huge gallery spaces.  His new body of work contains politically-charged paint, screen print, stencil, and collage mixed media pieces which use metaphor, humor, and seductive decorative elements to deliver provocative but beautiful results. These works blur the perceived barriers between propaganda and escapist decoration, political responsibility and humor with the intent of stimulating both viscerally and intellectually.

“E Pluribus Venom” could be interpreted as saying both that there is poison in the American system, and that many individuals are motivated by venom and anger toward this system. “E Pluribus Venom” is comprised of artworks designed to question the symbols and methods of the American machine and American dream and also celebrate those who oppose blind nationalism and war.

Shepard’s ‘E Pluribus Venom’ exhibition is on view at the Jonathon LeVine Gallery in New York until July 23rd 2007.

‘Volcomics’ Tour hits London

June 29, 2007

Yes yes yes, last night was the London leg of the infamous “Volcomics” Worlwide release party……and party we did.  Volcom have been working on this comic book for 2 years and it features legendary skateboard artists Jim Phillips and VCJ as well as some of the biggest creative contributors to skateboarding today.  In addition to skate-art heavyweights the book features artists/athletes from the worlds of surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding such as Mark Appleyard, Ozzie Wright, and Jamie Lynn.

Everyone lucky enough to attend was given a copy of Issue #1 and had the opportunity to buy some of the original drawings that feature in the comic book.  Over one hundered and forty five of these awesome sketches & paintings were on show but the highlight of the exhibition was the 12 colour flourescent ink “Vol-uh-tile” screen print by Jim Phillips and Matt French! Insane.

I heart SKATEBOARDING

June 22, 2007

Last night’s Nike SB & Blueprint Skateboards bash was rad.  A great history of skate footwear from back in the day was on show, with lots of great stories to read on the walls alongside them.  It was super nostaligic to see the very first pair of skate shoes you owned and awesome to find the limited edition/artist collab joints on view as well.

It was an epic turnout for the launch of this exhibition and we’ll be going back within the next week to read all the stories on the walls…our eyes weren’t focusing too well after the “one or two” beers we had…wowza!

(Words of wisdom – don’t engage in a game of S.K.A.T.E after consuming the above, even if money is thrown down)

Major thanks to Seb @ Nike SB for the hook up.

Be sure to check this show out before it’s gone!

June 21, 2007

go-skateboarding-day.jpg

Yes that’s right, Santa can go suck a fat one, THIS is our favourite holiday of the year.  June 21st is officially “Go Skateboarding Day”, established 3 years ago by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (yes, skateboarding has one of those!) GSD gives passionate skateboarders who embody skateboarding, as well as those who are simply inspired by skateboarding, the opportunity to drop everything and get on a skateboard!  Hell Yeah!

Thanks to our awesome buddies at Nike SB for hooking us up with the sickest looking passes ever for tonight’s festivities. What festivities i hear you ask? Check back tomorrow for the answer…….and peep these websites.

“Art on Foam” London Party

June 8, 2007

Last night we were lucky enough to attend the London opening for the Art on Foam Exhibition, presented by Spacejunk and Quiksilver, held in Elms Lesters Gallery.

22 surfboards customized by some of the worlds best street artists were admired as the champagne flowed very freely.  We especially liked the fruit cocktail sticks and chicken skewers….just kidding…the art on show was insane and a huge well done to Jerome@Spacejunk for putting the exhibition together.

If you are in London between now and the 16th June then you MUST check this show out!  It’s just a stones throw from Tottenham Court Road so peep the Elms Lesters Gallery website for directions.

For more info on where the show hits next in the world, check out –
